Superman’s Girl Friend Lois Lane 23!

Download Episode 321 Part II!

This 400th individual episode of the podcast features SUPERMAN’S GIRL FRIEND LOIS LANE 23, February 1961, which was published around December 22, 1960. It contained 32 pages for the cover price of a dime, and had a circulation of 458,000 copies, according to the Statement Of Ownership published inside the issue. The editor was Mort Weisinger, and the cover was pencilled by Curt Swan and inked by Stan Kaye, featuring the issue’s third and final story. Kurt Schaffenberger drew all three stories, which have been reprinted in SHOWCASE PRESENTS: SUPERMAN FAMILY vol. IV.

– THE 10 FEATS OF ELASTIC LASS (9 pgs.), was written by Otto Binder. This story was also reprinted in GIANT LOIS LANE ANNUAL 2, Summer 1963, published with the DC titles cover dated July 1963 on June 6, 1963.

– THE CURSE OF LENA THORUL (8 pgs.), was written by Jerry Siegel. This was his 57th silver age Superman family story covered in this podcast, and his 99th we’ve covered overall during the silver age. This story was also reprinted in 80 PG. GIANT 11, June 1965, published on April 15, 1965.

– THE WIFE OF SUPERMAN (8 pgs.), writer unknown according to Mike’s Amazing World Of DC Comics and comicbookdb.com, while the Grand Comic Book Database listed Jerry Siegel as the writer. Because of the disagreement on the writing credit of this story I am not counting this story toward Siegel’s silver age story production. This story was also reprinted in SUPERMAN’S GIRL FRIEND LOIS LANE 86, 80 PG. GIANT G-51, September/October 1968, published on July 11, 1968 for the cover price of a quarter.

Also highlighted in this episode are the ads and other features in this issue, including the LETTERS TO LOIS column and DC Comics’ Statement Of Ownership for this title.

Elsewhere in DC Comics, 30 titles carried the February or February/March 1961 cover date, which were covered at the end of Episode 236 for the week of August 22, 2012.
